Introduction to the Pony Club
The Pony Club is an international youth organization for people interested in ponies and riding. WEC is an approved Pony Club Centre. Our club meets monthly, providing an ideal opportunity to gain knowledge and some hands-on experience.
Objectives of the Pony Club
- To encourange young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding.
- To provide instruction in riding and horsemanship, and to teach and promote the proper care of horses.
Tests
Pony Club Standards of efficiency and Progress Tests can be taken. These are designed to encourage members to learn more about riding and pony care.
Achievement Badges
The Achievement Badges cover a wide range of equestrian and countryside topics. They are less formal than the tests and involve practical work with the ponies and in the countryside.
Benefits of Joining
You will increase your knowledge of riding and pony care which should in turn make the time you spend with ponies more enjoyable. The tests and badges will make you even more competent as a rider and in your handling and care of the ponies you ride. Membership is open to anyone under the age of 21.
Insurance
Your membership subscription will include Third Party legal Liability Insurance, which covers you in the evnt of accidental injury or damage to third parties or their property, arising out of the use or ownership of ponies or horses.
Rallies
These involve riding and stable management and are open to members. You will work towards the Achievement Badges and Progress Tests. We have regular events such as a mock drag hunt (with a member of staff posing as Reynard!), Easter egg hunts, Halloween and Christmas parties.
Talks and Demonstrations
We have talks and demonstrations given by people who are experts in their own equestrian disciplines. This year we have been visited by the British vaulting team; Janet Betterman, grand prix dressage rider and David Deptford, western riding champion.
Outings
Outings have included a tour of the National Stud at Newmarket and visits to Olympia Christmas Horse Show.
Competitions
We run small, members-only competitions involving equitation, showing, jumping etc.
Clinics
The clinics are to help members with their preparations for competitions.
"Fun Events"
These include treasure hunts, quiz evenings, video evenings and general fun days - we would love to include your suggestions!
Social Events
These include a Christmas Party and the annual Witcham Equestrian Centre Summer Barbecue where awards for the most-improved riders will be given.
Newsletter
There are regular Newsletters to keep members informed.
